Peat Smoked Porter
Grains: 1 lb Black Malt .25 lbs Simpsons Dark Crystal .25 lbs Peat Smoked Malt
Extract: 6 lbs Munich LME 1 lb Dark DME
Hops: 1 oz Chinook - 60min 1 oz Willamette - 40 min 1 oz Willamette - 15 min
Yeast: Safale US-56
Notes: 10/18/2005 - Brew Night - First Full Wort Boil - Steeped grains in 1.5 gallons of water at 110 for 20 min and 155 for 20 min (I had to turn off the burner and go get propane). Heated up remaining water on turkey fryer, combined with grain water, brought to a boil and added LME and DME. Used wort chiller to chill wort, took 1 hour because I didn't spread out the coils after I got it, pitched yeast at 78 and added .5 gallons water. Aerated wort with wisk and drill which worked great.10/25/2005 - Transferred to secondary, 1 piece airlock 12/23/2005 - Too bitter from the cascade hops. Hop bitterness definately overpowers the malt flavor of this beer, not at all balanced. Would make again with different bittering hops, maybe Willamette for all.
